I do a good bit of lap swimming (see goals - lower left) so I have lots of time to think about it. I routinely see athletic folks who can't swim, or swim poorly + often wonder why I find it so easy - I'm not particularly athletic. This blog is about what I'm learning about swimming dynamics + some fun stuff too.
For your safety, all posts + comments are musings + tips that have worked for me - opinion only. For the record, I strongly suggest following Red Cross swim-safety protocols.

21st Sunscreen is Great ... or is it?
I just came across this article today that among other things says that the FDA hasn't been telling us the whole truth about sunscreen. You know the basics, but did you know that your sunscreen might be causing you to GET skin cancer? I was floored. Here I am practically lathering up with sunscreen so I can enjoy a summer day at the pool and I read this? Oh crap. Guess I'll be going back to zinc oxide nose soon.

Sunscreen Is Bad for your Tan AND Mother Earth?
An article in National Geographic News is saying that just a little sunscreen can bleach coral in just a few days. While it sounds a little ridiculous to consider that your sunscreen could do damage to a coral reef, the scientists behind the study cited in this article seems to be fairly certain. As I age, I've grown more fond of sunscreen products. Now I just don't know. Must we now only swim only in dim light?
