I do a good bit of lap swimming (see goals - lower left) so I have lots of time to think about it. I routinely see athletic folks who can't swim, or swim poorly + often wonder why I find it so easy - I'm not particularly athletic. This blog is about what I'm learning about swimming dynamics + some fun stuff too.
For your safety, all posts + comments are musings + tips that have worked for me - opinion only. For the record, I strongly suggest following Red Cross swim-safety protocols.

Pools on my vacation are disappointing
Swimming pools need to be designed by swimmers! It's clear that pools more often are not being designed for swimming. This pool is just plain crazy. All one can do is jump in or hang on the side. Maybe a little bit of slow trekking across the middle might work. A simple straight line between the two ends might be an improvement. Any pool that is more for bathing than swimming ought not be called a swimming pool.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is that most people in hotels only use the pool to submerge themselves, and maybe swim to the other side. Otherwise, most people hang out around the edges (thus the odd shape: increased perimeter). I would opt to consider such pools to be "bathing pools" more than swimming pools. I wish that they would make pools that were simple rectangles rather than odd shapes.
